Next Meeting: Wednesday 19th June @Maggie's
Welcome to The London Sarcoma Support Group website
Very little can prepare you for the impact of a cancer diagnosis but to be told you have a rare cancer is a devastating shock. Cancer may not even have been suspected when you first sought medical attention. Many patients only receive a sarcoma diagnosis after many investigations and tests, sometimes only after surgery for a different suspected condition.
Sarcomas are cancers of connective tissue – bones, muscles, fatty tissue, cartilage, nerves, etc. They are a group of rare cancers and together account for about 1% of all cancers diagnosed in the UK per annum – about 2500 cases.
Because of the rarity of sarcoma and the number of sub-types (more than 50), patients and their families can often experience a feeling of isolation. They may not have the opportunity to meet another sarcoma patient.
The London Sarcoma Support Group was formed in the hope of meeting this need and to provide a place for those affected by sarcoma to meet in a safe, friendly and supportive environment. Its aim is to offer friendship and an outstretched hand because we are mostly people who are going through or have been through something similar to your experience. Sarcoma can happen to anyone at any time regardless of age, ethnicity, gender or social standing.
London Sarcoma Support would like to thank
Sarcoma UK & Macmillan for their generous support
